| eBay has introduced a new portal page called PC
Selling Center (pcsellingcenter.ebay.com). The page is designed to make
it easier for individuals to sell their old PCs on eBay. Within the PC
Selling Center, visitors have two basic paths to choose from: Sell it
Yourself or Sell it For Me.
"Sell it Yourself" provides tools that make it
easier to list and ship computers on eBay, including assistance with
generating printing labels and obtaining boxes, as well as instructions
on securely removing personal data from the machine.
"Sell it For Me" provides three choices for
selling PCs using third-party services: DealTree; AuctionDrop; and eBay
Trading Assistants.
In the first option, "Fast Cash Trade-In,"
DealTree provides a service where PC owners can describe their PC,
receive a quote, and get a UPS shipping label to mail the computer
directly to DealTree.
In the second option, "Find a drop-off location
near me," eBay links to an eBay drop-off store called AuctionDrop. Users
can drop their computers off at an AuctionDrop or UPS Store location,
and AuctionDrop will list the computer on eBay for the owner on a
consignment basis.
The third option links to eBay's own directory of
"Trading Assistants," eBay sellers who have signed up to sell goods on a
consignment basis for customers. Users can search for a Trading
Assistant by zip code or category.
eBay announced the PC Selling Center on its
Marketing Announcement Board on Tuesday. It's not known whether eBay
will promote the page in other ways.
